How to care for your silver plated flatware.

Most of the time, people do find ways to get the best when it comes to getting a specific pattern of flatware items in their homes, but what they do not put in their minds at the purchase point is the fact that they would have to take good care of them with the sole aim of achieving that much needed shine and at the same time, giving the flatware enough space in it’s survival window period. Caring for silver plated flatware does not really have to be capital intensive and tiring as most people believe. giving them a good scrub and polish for it to have a natural shine only but gives it and you the guarantee that it would stay for as long as twenty full years which is also seen as the normal life span of the silver flatware. It is important to note that even though the guarantee is put at 20 years, they can last above that as this is just a period that is believed owners would have considered and accepted that it has served its purposes.

First of all, the most important information that is made available to those who nurse intentions to own silver plated flatware is that it is really not safe for them to be washed using the dishwasher, rather, washing and scrubbing by hand is seen as the best option. This should be done using hot soapy water and rinsed carefully. After rinsing them, you should have In place a dry towel that would be used to carefully remove any further traces of liquid on the flatware and then the final step, which is storing them in a cool and dry place in the kitchen, preferably a kitchen cabinet. This process should not be limited to any particular item in the kitchen, for as long as it has silver on it, it sure has to be handled with care especially in cases where food gets stuck on your cutleries, as most of them contain some form of acidic substances that damages them in the long run.

It is very important also to note that there are some liquid washers that are not recommended to be used when washing your silver plated flatware just for the fact that they contain a level of acidity in them which when used constantly on the surface of the flatware, it just corrodes over time. This is mostly found in lemon scented liquid washers. It is also no surprise that people do get really attached to the lemon flavor, but they should also know of the damage it can bring at also, know that they can successfully give their stainless steel flatware that much needed scrub, so having them In the kitchen also is not all that bad.

Most of the time, people tend to get really obsessed with cleaning and polishing their silver plated flatware more than necessary. I use the word obsessed just for the fact that they often just take them out and give it a good scrub and polish without having any plans for it to be used. You should note that most of these flatware items are used when food is being served and the constant polishing would only but lead to dangerous outcomes, especially in cases where such polish used has not been properly removed before use.

Caring for your silver plated flatware and also giving it a good shine every now and then is a good hobby, but it should only be done if absolutely necessary, as it is a well know fact that too much of everything is really bad.
